Abstract

This essay is an original investigation to demonstrate that the American TV show Twin Peaks (1989-1991) and its sequel Twin Peaks: The Return (2017) are the product of an “Odyssey” artwork process directed by the filmmaker David Lynch and the writer Mark Frost. Following the three parts of this essay, the reader is invited to discover the cultural, philosophical and narrative legacy of the homeric poem during the creative act of this masterpiece of television that changed our way to consume TV shows and to create them forever.

François Caruano, Université Grenoble Alpes

François Caruano est doctorant en histoire au département d'histoire de l'Université Grenoble Alpes où il développe ses recherches mêlant la poésie homérique et le langage cinématographique au sein de du laboratoire LUHCIE. Il étudie les mutations depuis la parole, le texte et l'image. Son travail est née de la volonté de mettre en avant l'héritage culturel antique au sein de l’art cinématographique contemporain. Mais aussi pour démontrer que le cinéma, dans la continuité du concept de “cinématisme” créé par le célèbre réalisateur soviétique S. M. Ėjzenštejn, doit s’interroger sur ses propres origines qui remonte à plusieurs siècles. Ses recherches traitent des oeuvres cinématographiques mais également de la sérialité télévisuelle vus comme une transposition moderne des rhapsodies homériques.
