The Mourning of Reason. For an interpretation of Goya's "black paintings"
Abstract
Goya’s Black Paintings always entail significant interpretative issues, because they have been accomplished in substantial solitude, and thus with scarce evidences able to help us understand the overall meaning of the work and of the single paintings. The analysis proposed by the critics are rather unsatisfactory. Hence this essay aims to provide an overall and coherent interpretation.
