Abstract

Daniele Benati, a writer and friend of Celati's, retraces the linguistic strategies Celati implemented for his second novel, Le avventure di Guizzardi (1973), wondering whether it would be possible to reproduce them in another language.

Daniele Benati

Daniele Benati (Reggio Emilia, 1953) has taught at various universities in Ireland, the United States and Hungary. He has translated Irish and American authors (Joyce, Beckett, Flann O'Brien, Brian Friel and others). Together with Gianni Celati he translated the anthology Storie di solitari americani (Rizzoli, 2006) and co-edited with Ermanno Cavazzoni Piccola antologia in lingua italiana of poems by Raffaello Baldini (Quodlibet, 2018). His works of fiction are: Silenzio in Emilia (Feltrinelli, 1997 and Quodlibet, 2009); Un altro che non ero io (Aliberti, 2007); Baltica 9 (with Paolo Nori, Laterza, 2008); Cani dell'inferno (Feltrinelli, 2004 and Quodlibet, 2018), Opere complete di Learco Pignagnoli e altre opere complete (Aliberti, 2006 and Quodlibet, 2022). He was among the editors of the literary almanac "Il Semplice" (Feltrinelli, 1995-1997) and the magazine "L'accalappiacani" (DeriveApprodi, 2006-2010).
